Monologue/Drama: The crafty manager
He was a crafty devil, that manager of mine – and devil was the right word for him. He’d been fiddling his expenses for years and the only reason he got away with it was that I wasn’t involving myself in the management side of the business as much as I should have been. So, to a certain extent it was my own fault. But once someone had dropped me an extra-large hint about the situation, I finally decided it was time to act.
He got quite a shock, I can tell you, when I confronted him with what I’d heard. His face turned every colour of the rainbow and he spluttered and shuffled around and tried to avoid my eyes and keep his to the ground.
I fired him and demanded a full audit of the books and his face turned pale. In the end he looked so worried that I sent him away before he had the chance to collapse in front of me. Quite frankly, I didn’t expect to see him again.
