Meditations for Carers

16. Let it be

Hebrews 2.18

Being a carer is tough but I’ve been wondering recently whether things really are as tough as I’ve been thinking. I’d been feeling overwhelmed but suddenly thought: is this true? Or am I creating a maelstrom of worry about the future, about potential disaster, that may never happen? Am I thinking myself into feeling overwhelmed?

Of course, dealing with disability or degenerative illness is overwhelming but we don’t have to be overwhelmed. If we’re finding it that hard, maybe we’ve fallen into the trap of making it even harder than it needs to be. We have to remember that we’re not alone in this – and the trustworthy One who is with us has promised to help us so that we are not defeated. It’s time to stop struggling. We don’t have to exhaust ourselves to prove we’re good carers. We can let that go, and instead decide to walk this journey with Jesus, who provides peace and strength and comfort...
