Stuff Happens
Genesis 12: 6b-10

Three or four years ago, a friend of mine got a job as a youth pastor on the East Coast. It meant his wife had to give up her job in California, but she had originally come from the East Coast, and she was entirely happy to make the move. They found a house easily enough, though she had a harder time finding a good job, but then that ceased to seem so important because they discovered they were going to have a baby. Then my friend lost his job. The youth ministry wasn’t growing in the way the senior pastor expected. I admire the way they both coped with the experience. In due course she found the right kind of part-time work that she could combine with being a mother in the way she wanted to, and he found another job that for the long term wasn’t the kind of thing to which he really wanted to give himself but for a while would do. Maybe he needed to lick his wounds (I would need to, in the circumstances). Stuff happens...
