People who cannot have children may go to huge lengths to fulfill their longing. Yesterday I noticed in the newspaper an advertisement for a free lunch and seminar on how to start a family by surrogacy. It involved going to India, where doctors can implant a woman’s egg in a local person so that she can bear the baby when the first woman finds it impossible to carry a baby to term. The reason for considering the idea is that it costs only $30,000 or so (it costs two or three times more in the United States)...
