There are several restaurants and clubs where I take my wife in her wheelchair and where they invariably both remember us and are mindful of us. When I call to make a reservation, they remember us (it’s partly the odd accent), and when we arrive, they remember us (partly because of the wheelchair). But in addition, when we arrive, they are mindful of us. They are invariably keen to make sure we can sit somewhere with good access and where Ann can see and hear. It used to be easy for me to think that wherever we went, we were a nuisance, but I have more or less become able to appreciate people’s genuine mindfulness.
