‘I want it all to be perfect! There must be nothing wrong! Everything’s got to be just right!’

The bride-to-be was getting more and more excited as the great day approached. Though many people in Western society scoff at the institution of marriage, many others, including a great many young people, still see a wedding service as one of the high points, perhaps the high point, of their life. For much of the time, most of us live in comparative obscurity. Now, suddenly, two people take centre stage, with the people they know best and love most all around them. No wonder they want everything to be perfect. They don’t want to look back and say ‘Pity about the cake’ or ‘What a shame the dress wasn’t quite right’ or ‘Too bad there was a leak in the church roof and the bridegroom got wet’...
