Where Does the Messiah Come From?
John 7.40-52

I watched in admiration as the chess game reached its closing stages. Somehow the television commentator managed to explain what the two master players were doing in such a way that even a complete beginner like myself could understand. The younger man would make a move; the commentator would explain how brilliant it was, how unexpected and yet how devastating and powerful. Then, after a due pause, the older player would respond, and again the commentator would explain how, though you couldn’t have predicted it, and certainly his opponent wouldn’t have imagined he would do that, this was in fact the perfect, teasing answer. So it went on, with two great minds trying to out-think each other, and us mere watchers being helped to understand the plot and counter-plot, the multiple layers of strategy, going on all the time...
