On the grounds that there is no point in telling someone to do something if they are already doing it, the Ephesian community must be quite like a church you know well. It is interesting how much of this section is concerned with talk. There is a rather perfunctory mention, in verse 28, that thieving is wrong, but even that is condemned, in this context, because it is an activity destructive of community, rather than because it is innately wrong. (It clearly is, I hasten to add, but that is not the point that is being made here.)...
