Dramatic reading: The greatest

Proper 26 Year A

Matthew 23:1-12

(Could be used with several voices, or a single reader with another voice reading the words of Jesus at the end.)

Let me preach your word and triumph in the glory of my oratory and the admiration of the congregation, knowing that they must listen to the wisdom I proclaim although I have no need to do so.

Let me dress in my fine clothes with designer labels, while those who buy their outfits from a jumble sale or charity shop may envy my style, knowing they can never afford it.

Let me be driven to the banquet in a limousine, so that I can take my place at the top table without my hair being ruffled, or being contaminated by the masses that travel by public transport...
