Gaze on an illuminated manuscript. See how the page is full of gold leaf, which lights up the word. When an idea is illuminated for us, it confers vision far greater than sight, as Jesus does of God.


Gaze on a stained-glass window with the sun exploding through. The vibrancy of the colours – liquid gold, rubies and emeralds – multiply and spin and enlighten the dark interior. This explosion does not shatter the glass, which is a channel for the wonder of the light. The stained glass allows us to look at the sun without being blinded...
