Genesis 28:6-15


When I would occasionally remember a dream and report it, my wife would say that she didn’t dream. Really she knew she did, because everyone does; it’s one reason why we sleep. But we don’t usually remember our dreams, maybe partly because they are part of our processing things. Now, as I get older, I don’t sleep as well as I did when I was younger, but because I sometimes wake up during the night, I remember my dreams, which can be disturbing but is often fun. A few nights ago, I dreamed that one of our church-history professors was playing for the Welsh soccer team and scored a magnificent goal. I don’t know what that was about. Last night I dreamed I had three books on the subject of Wisdom in the Old Testament to review for journals and that the reviews were almost due, so I was pleased to wake up and remember that I had only one book on Psalms to review, though I also have quite a few student papers on Wisdom to grade. In our dreams we are indeed often processing questions, problems, and upcoming tasks...
