The window by my desk looks out over our patio, where I can see geraniums starting to bloom, blue jays coming to bathe in the fountain, and squirrels trying to remember where they stored their nuts. A plant of basil sits on a table and will provide the leaves to make more pesto when we have finished the first batch. There are two or three pots of impatiens flowers of different colors, with their amazing tolerance for shade and neglect. This afternoon the sun will reach our side of the building, and toward evening its light will shine through the trees, glinting off the leaves that get thicker day by day. It is enough to make an urban creature like me rejoice in the wonder of creation...
