The Raising of the Little Girl
Matthew 9.18-26

As I write this, Britain’s farms are in a state of crisis. A powerful disease has spread through tens of thousands of animals, which have had to be slaughtered. Much of the countryside is closed off; nobody is allowed to walk through fields and woods, or to exercise dogs near where livestock are kept. To gain access to a farming area you have to drive through piles of disinfected straw; if you are on foot, you have to walk through disinfectant. The disease brings horror everywhere it goes, and fear everywhere it might go. Suddenly everyone is taking very strict precautions about animal hygiene, though alas it seems too late...
