Mark 9: 30-37

Gaze on the disciples, a ragged band trudging along and always on the move. So often they are confused by their leader, yet always in awe of him and often afraid to ask, afraid to look the fool. Now he’s made that frightening prediction about ending on a vile cross again. But their talk has moved back to themselves. Jesus senses they are muddled and that they have been squabbling. He senses that their relationships are tense and fractured. They reach Capernaum – home – and now Jesus decides to sort them out, not by a stiff telling off, but by a gentle example...
