And so to the crunch question: isn’t post-evangelical just another way of saying ‘woolly liberal’? It never ceases to amaze me how paranoid evangelicals are about liberalism. Any deviation from the ‘straight and narrow’ and, ‘Whoa! I think you need to be careful there, you’re sounding like a liberal.’ ‘Liberal’ is of course a wonderful blanket term, which describes almost anything that deviates from the accepted evangelical line on things. It is my contention that ‘post-evangelical’ does certainly not mean ‘liberal’, and I would deeply regret it if, out of a lack of viable alternatives, post-evangelicals drifted towards liberalism, though I probably feel this for different reasons from those that many evangelicals would put forward…
