4 Longing to grow

I want to tell you a couple of stories. The first is about Barbara who was a ‘mish-kid’ (child of missionaries). Although she had always been included in the church family with her folks, she had been taught from quite an early age that she would need to come to a faith of her own. After going through university where she had had plenty of opportunity to develop her independence and think about life for herself, she decided at 22 to make an open profession of faith in Christ at an evangelistic meeting she attended. Delighted and exhilarated, she went along to a local evangelical church. It took around three months for her misgivings to crystallize: ‘They just seemed so content with a faith that asked no questions’, she told me. ‘Everyone calmly accepted whatever the leaders said.’…
