8 Is the Bible the word of God?

Our purpose here is straightforward: what is a post-evangelical view of the Bible? I think it is fair to say that post-evangelicals have mixed feelings on the subject. They have an underlying respect for the Bible, and in my experience they are keen to rediscover its relevance to their lives and to their world; yet they also have a backlog of negative feelings about the way they have seen it used in the past. Many of the interpretations they have heard being placed upon it suggest that the Bible stands in opposition to some of the values they hold most dear; and they also struggle with the ‘strangeness’ of the world it portrays, compared with the reality they confront day by day…
