Children make good television.  Whether they are answering Mastermind questions and making
the whole adult population feel inadequate or spelling words that the rest of us have nightmares
about, the combination of innocence and sophistication is quite compelling.  When it comes to
asking questions, they show that same combination.  Little Ant and Dec have a way of disarming
celebrities and getting to the real person, whether it be Tony Blair or Kylie.  
 
Children have the ability to ask questions that the rest of us are too embarrassed to ask.  This is
true not just in the area of entertainment but also in the area of faith.  A book of children’s prayers
gives some examples.  One child asks the very reasonable question, ‘Dear God, did you mean for
giraffes to look like that or was it just an accident?’  Another, whose future is no doubt as
Professor of Analytic Logic at Oxford, asks, ‘Dear God, how did you know you were God?’  Yet
another asks, ‘Dear God, instead of letting people die and having to make new ones, why don’t
you just keep the ones you’ve got now?’
